Updating from Mac OS v10.5.8

Postby ms spock » Sun Nov 16, 2014 10:11 am

Hello Folks,

I am looking at Daisy Again's Macintosh.

She wanted me to update her Safari which is currently Safari v5.0.6 as she is getting the message it is no longer supported. Her current OS is Mac OS v10.5.8. I think that is Leopard.

So several questions:

I suspect she needs to update her OS before she can update Safari. Is this true? From what I have read Safari v5.06 is the last one for her OS.

What would be the best way of updating her OS? I am thinking that she needs to update in stages until she gets to the latest OS? How many can I skip?

I haven't done a Mac in more than a decade so I am out of the loop. Any suggestions or urls greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Apple will only update in stages for some releases of OS X. There is a fairly reasonable guide in this Apple Support Forum thread.

From 10.5.8 you can't upgrade directly to some more recent releases because the method of updating has changed over time.
