New Server

Postby fsm » Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:51 am

Sorry about the downtime for these forums. We are moving to a brand new (faster) server over the next few days, so if things happen to disappear again please be patient.

I love the Bandicoot dancing down there ;)

The dancing bandicoot is the ABC interpretive dance bandicoot. After the recent budget cuts, FFFS may have to replace him.
Do we need The Bolt Report grinning leech? The Miranda Devine howler monkey troupe? The Christopher Pyne performing poodle? The Fred Nile circus sloth?

oh, dear god no, please NO!

I live in Jamie Briggs' electorate and spend 3 days week in Chirstopher Pynes ... that's too much already!

I suppose if we can't have one of first dog's characters ... would Leunig's duck be out of the question? Or Vasco?

Anything, frankly ... the Muddle Headed Wombat ?

A Survey?
I have the day "off" and am enjoying it enormously ... a local walk shows that this is a spectacular year for the Hyacinth Orchids. :)

Maybe we could have the Rove McManus muddle headed wombat, or the Alan Jones fruit bat.

*sobs*

Why?

I see them all around in my real life, every day ... I need something to lift my spirits and make me risk dancing for the future (in my head, at least)
;p

Nah.
Go for it.

What about First Dog in the Moon's illustration of Malcolm Turnbull as Mrs Slocombe?

It's good to reread the First Dog on the ABC cuts. For those who may have missed the Christopher Pyne petition that is referred to in the cartoon, it's worth a look at the comments-https://www.change.org/p/chairman-james-spigelman-ac-qc-and-the-board-of-the-australian-broadcasting-corporation-abc-the-abc-must-not-close-its-production-house-in-adelaide

Mrs Malcolm Slocombe-Turnbull is an excellent decorative choice.

It took a little while for the DNS to kick in, but now we are running on the new server.

The forum should be a bit more responsive now. We were on a shared host (sharing with 1,884 other websites). Now we are on our own VPS.

Orange in the dark has been dead for a long while. Nothing wrong with the link. The page simply isn't there.

Thanks fsm. Now I look back it seems I did get in here on Monday because I had read some of the posts in this thread. Then I lost you again. But now I get to post my reply in a tiny little box?

The proper box flicks past and I end up in a little space in the top left corner.

Doesn't matter much. It's like the little boxes companies have for you to email them on their websites.

Ah, but if I go to preview, the 'real' box comes back.

Sounds as if something is wrong at your end, Buffy. All working normally as far as I can see.

Do you need to update your browser or summat?

It's got sorted. I was not getting to the new server for some reason. It could have been some out of datedness at BigPond, apparently. Working now.

I tried typing in the address.

I tried linking in from Google.

I tried linking in from somewhere else that was suggested.

I got someone to contact fsm for me and some tinkering was done apparently.

This post is from the Next G dongle in Casterton.

Bigpond wireless services seem to be set to cache more data and keep it for longer. This effectively reduces the wireless traffic and so improves the wireless responsiveness. BUT, the problem is that the cache can go stale and stay that way for longer causing the type of DNS problem that you experienced.

I had a problem like that the other day. I could access some sites, but timed out on others. Eventually sorted with CCleaner and/or time.

All back to normal now. Presumably the BigPond people were having that Christmas party.
