OS 10.6.8

Postby misty2011 » Sat Dec 03, 2016 9:08 am

Good morning techies,
I have 2 problems that I'm hoping someone can help with.

Firstly:
I'm wanting to update my OS, I downloaded 10.7.5 but can't install it because it needs 10.7
I have looked up free OS 10.7 but they are not through apple.
Are the other download sites safe, is one better that the other.

Second:
When I'm browsing the net & go from one page (follow a link) it opens up in the same tab instead of a new one & there's no back button,
How can I fix so that new tabs open instead of wiping out the previous tab?

Thanks in advance
Misty

Here is a page with instructions on how to upgrade your earlier version.

Thanks fsm,
but I'm currently running 10.6.8
so I can't just jump to the latest version.
Apparently I have to go to 10.7 first!

Part way down that page...

Have an older version of OS X? Learn how to upgrade

Upgrading from OS X Snow Leopard

If you’re running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and your Mac supports macOS Sierra, you will need to upgrade to El Capitan first. Click here for instructions.

Thanks fsm,
I did read through the page, but as in my OP I was asking about a free download as I may have to do several upgrades to bring my imac up to date now.
So I'm asking if the sites offering free upgrades are safe... is one better than the others etc ?

Downloading from unverifiable sources isn't recommended.

Anyway, 10.7 is becoming annoyingly out of date. Browsers such as firefox won't support it anymore.
